If you go to the Sands this week, say hello to cocktail waitress Alejandra. The young beauty is from Costa Rica. She'll only be with us for a few months, then it's off to Australia for five years. Alejandra has a degree in hotel management.
Vicki Roush dropped in to sing with Larry Smith last week. Vicki is one of those multi-talented people who can do anything she wants to. She had a cabaret act a few years ago, has done many theatre performances, and now has the Redheaded Blues Band. No one is more fun, no matter what the format. We're so glad to have you back, Vicki.
There's a rumour afloat that Larry Smith's wonderful Sunday Night Showcase will return in a new venue. Larry featured artists like Kathleen Peace, Jodyrae, and Ben Harrison in concert. I'll tell you where and when as soon as I know.
Steve Rivers e-mailed us from St. Louis. Steve, there are no gigs available here until our season begins, around Thanksgiving. This is our very slow time for musicians. You'll see from our listings that many clubs close for vacation and/or remodeling at thi time of year. Get in touch again after October. I'll send you whatever comes up. Don't forget to send me your e-mail address. I'll look forward to hearing you.
I frequently get mail from performers wanting to come here. I even had an inquiry from the manager of Harry Connick, Jr., asking where in Key West he could play. I had to tell him we don't have rooms big enough to justify the cost of booking him. I wish we did.
I'm looking forward to playing with Gary Chase again. We'll be doing duos and trios unless we find a budget for four or five peices and can book the band. Those are rare here. we lost the Turtle Kraals last year. Maybe they'll reconsider and begin booking music again. There's a happy thought!
Unity Of the Keys has a new minister, Angela Mattes. She looks so much like Lenore Troia, you'd think they were sisters. The Combo played for her first service Sunday. Betty Saint, David Lightman, Brent Litch, Kelly Moore and I rocked the house. She loved it. She's witty and funny and very spiritual. She was once a psychotherapist. We sure need her!
I ran into my pal Dennis Maloney. He's had painful shoulder surgery, and Koko, his girl pup is not well, so say a prayer. Reggie is fine.
